The start to 2020 didn’t go as planned…
The achiever in me feels like I should always start my emails on a positive note. But I want to be raw and honest with you – it’s been an emotional and heart-breaking start to 2020. For those that read my last email of 2019 you’ll know that I was looking forward to embracing Christmas with a simple picnic in my Mum’s garden. Mum was in remission from aggressive stomach cancer.
Unfortunately, this didn’t last, and Mum’s cancer returned. Apart from the odd night – since Boxing Day I have been home in Hawke’s Bay caring for Mum until she lost her battle with cancer on 1st February. In typical Mum fashion she remained brave, dignified and worried and cared more about her loved ones than she did herself. While the start to 2020 didn’t go as planned, I feel grateful that I got to spend precious moments by her side. These moments will be memories that I cherish for life.
Your kindness and support mean the world to me.
Caring for Mum in Hawke’s Bay meant that I had to shift my focus and take time away from work. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and support from my lovely and loyal clients during this time. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You for your understanding when I had to cancel your appointments, for your compassion when I wasn’t sure when I would return to work and for your comfort when you reached out to let me know I was in your thoughts.
Strength from Mindfulness
Grief is a funny old thing. It comes in all shapes and sizes and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Grief is raw and has its own story to tell – you can’t rush grief. During the last few weeks I’ve been thankful that I’ve been able to draw strength from practicing mindfulness. I’ve acknowledged that it’s OK to not feel OK and to sit in the moment, instead of pushing through it. Sometimes taking a few moments, and three deep breaths helps you to reset. Whether you’re working your way through you own grief, or just feeling overwhelmed with the day-to-day I can support you through a bespoke Mindfulness session.
Mindfulness for Health
Towards the end of 2019 I booked a retreat in Melbourne for 8-13 February 2020. It was a 5-night residential retreat where health and wellness professionals could deepen their understanding of Mindfulness for Health. The techniques include a mix of mindfulness and compassion practice, meditation and modern pain management strategies to support those with chronic pain and ill-health. This was an amazing opportunity for me to build on my own mindfulness practice and for my work supporting clients with chronic pain.
Your Breathworks accredited Teacher
You’ll know by now that professional development is important to me. I like to look to new ways of furthering the support I can offer you. This year I’m continuing my study towards a Diploma in Health and Wellness Coaching. And, after the success of the Mindfulness for Health retreat, I’ve decided to further my knowledge with Breathworks UK and become accredited to teach their two signature courses: Mindfulness for Health and Mindfulness for Stress. I’ll be starting my teacher training in June.
Feel the benefits of a Massage and Mindfulness treatment.

Please contact me if you are interested or want to find out more about either of these offers.
My mantra for 2020 is to be kind to myself. And, to pass my self-compassion learning onto my clients through Massage and Mindfulness. While my start to 2020 didn’t go as planned, I feel thankful that I have discovered so much about myself and caring for others. Right now, I feel I have more to give my clients than ever before.
Until next time, be well.
